Installing AImation Studio

AImation Studio Installer lets you quickly configure your AImation setup. After starting the installer you must first accept the license agreement to proceed with installation, please read the license before progressing further.

The following screens lets you set some usual settings like the installation directory and optionally placing shortcuts on the desktop and in the start Menu. You are also asked to select the config directory, the default is in the %appdata%, but we recommend changing it to somewhere outside of C: drive. Otherwise, some problems may arise after updating AImation to a newer version due to the Windows' permission system. The config directory will store only small amounts of data (in dozens of kilobytes range). If in the future you would like to change the config directory without a reinstall you can either update your Windows Registry entries (depending on the system and install configuration, HKCU or HKLM/Software[/WOW6432Node]/Error 404/AImationStudio/) or you can create a "configLocation.txt" file in the installed directory containing the new config path.

During the first run of AImation Studio we suggest checking the settings tab (File->Settings) to see the possible options. We recommend setting the SavePath (Settings Tab->Saving) to your preferred directory, as it defaults to "/Scenes". This is where the bulk of the data will be stored, so if you have a dedicated drive for data you should put it there. This is most important if you installed AImation studio on C: drive, as again due to Windows' permission system updated versions of AImation may have trouble accessing data from older versions if it is stored on C:. After the first run of AImation Studio all the settings from the settings tab are available in the config directory in a human-readable JSON format.

AImation Studio will automatically detect newer versions of itself if connected to the internet and will allow you to download updates from the QuickStart tab. If the update download completes successfully the installer will start after you close the AImation app. You can also always download the newest version of the installer from our website. After the installer detects a version of AImation of already installed it will ask whether to update it or install a new instance. If you select to update all unnecessary files from the old version will be removed and the installation window will appear just like during the first installation, however, the options you changed the first time should already be set. Be warned that interrupting the installation process during the update will leave you without a working instance of AImation, only your animation data will be preserved.
