Since launching AImation Studio, one of the most common requests we've received is for mobile phone support. We're happy to announce that you can now use your Android or iOS device for motion capture in AImation Studio. This update makes the software easier to use, with less setup required and simple phone integration. With just your smartphone and AImation Studio, you can create high-quality animations without needing expensive equipment.
Better frame rates and resolutions with smartphones
One of the main benefits of using mobile phones for motion capture is the ability to record at higher frame rates. AImation Studio now supports up to 120 fps in HD resolution, providing more stable and better-quality animations. Recording in higher resolution, up to 1080p, and very soon in 4k, is also now possible, although AImation Studio was originally designed for cheap webcams, so higher resolution is not necessary for great results.
Another advantage is the reduced setup time. Since mobile phones connect wirelessly, you don’t need cables, and you can easily set up your phone anywhere, unlike webcameras.
Connecting your phone to AImation Studio
To connect your phone to AImation Studio, you can use apps like Camo, IVcam, or DroidCam. These apps allow you to link your phone to the software via USB or Wi-Fi. AImation Studio will automatically detect the connection and you can start recording.
We recommend using Camo, as its free plan includes a lot of useful features.
Coming Soon: native mobile integration in 2025
We’re also working on a direct mobile integration for AImation Studio, which will be available in 2025. This feature will let you connect your phone directly to AImation Studio without needing third-party apps, making the process even simpler.
Software updates: Advanced curve editor and more than 150 changes!
In addition to mobile phone support, we’ve introduced several new features, including the Advanced Curve Editor. This tool makes it easier to view and fix any issues in your animations. It gives you more control and helps improve the final result before sending your work to Unreal Engine or other platforms.
Since our last update, we’ve made over 150 changes, including bug fixes and improvements. These updates are helping us move closer to our goal of instant motion capture from video.
